2010 Village Day - Saturday 3rd July
For details and photographs of the floral display in church "Music to Worship by" Click here

Saturday 16th May
2009
We decided to stay
with the late Spring date for Village Day again this year.
The theme for the Floral Display in the Church
was "Praise his Name in Earth and Sky and
Sea", which is a very wide and broad theme. The flower arrangements
were, as ever, stunning, and many thanks are due to all who contributed to
the display.
Despite the showers
which came and went during the afternoon, Village Day was enjoyed by many
friends and visitors. There was lots to do and see, including open
gardens, tombola, cake, card and book stalls, plants for sale, children's
games, exhibitions, refreshments (including strawberries and cream, cakes,
salads, soups and sandwiches). We also had our usual Raffle, and
Children's Treasure Hunt.
Missed us this
year? Watch this space for next year's date - well worth a visit, and you
will be warmly welcomed.
On Sunday 17th May
there was a Village Day Service in St. John's Church. We were very pleased
to welcome a full church that afternoon. During the service we had a
dedication of the new furnishings in the Vestry, followed by light
refreshments. A moving service and very pleasant time with friends and
visitors.
Saturday 17th May
2008
Village Day was held in May
in 2008. We like to ring the changes occasionally so everyone can
see the village in a different light. Of particular interest were the rhododendrons
and azaleas which were in full bloom!
Several gardens
were open, including new ones, and an assortment of games to play, cream teas, book and bric-a-brac stalls,
plant and cake sales, tombolas and raffles.
There were stalls, exhibitions and
refreshments in Victory Hall.
The weather could
have been a little kinder to us, but thank you to the many people who came
along to see us and make our Village Day another great success!
On Sunday afternoon
we held our Village Day Service which was led by Rev Jeanette Hartwell. It
was a lovely service, and well attended. A fitting end to our Village
weekend.
Saturday
7th July 2007
Held in the Summer
once again, we had some wonderful things to see and do in our Village!
There was a
magnificent Floral Display in the Church
with the theme "Journeys of Faith" (See The Flowers page).
Several gardens
were open,
some never seen before! There were games to play, cream teas, book and bric-a-brac stalls,
plant and cake sales, tombolas and raffles. In the Victory Hall there were more stalls, exhibitions and
refreshments.
The weather leading
up to the day wasn't too good(!) but we were blessed with a warm sunny
day on the 7th.
Thanks for coming
to see us.
Saturday 13th May
2006
Once again, we had
a bumper collection of interesting things to see and do in Slitting Mill
on Village Day.
There was a
beautiful Floral Display in the Church on the theme of "Stepping Back
in Time".
As usual, there
were several gardens open, games to play, cream teas, book and bric-a-brac stalls,
plant and cake sales, tombolas and raffles. In the Victory Hall there were more stalls, exhibitions and
refreshments.
The weather wasn't
as kind to us as we had hoped, but the rain stayed away for the afternoon
and it didn't seem to put off the many people who came to have a look
around. Thank you for coming!!
Saturday 14th May
2005
After the success of our Spring
Village Day last year, we again held the event in May.
As usual, there was a
Floral Display in the Church. This year the theme
was "A Glimpse of Glory".
There was book and bric-a-brac stalls,
plant and cake sales, displays and refreshments. Several gardens were
open, having exhibitions and games. The money raised went to support the
St. John the Baptist
Church, and events in the Village Hall
help support the Hall itself .

Bric-a-Brac Counting the
Proceeds
The sun shone (and the
wind blew a little), and we had a hugely successful and enjoyable day.
Saturday 15th May 2004
We have run our Village Day very
successfully in July for several years now and have been very well
supported by a lot of regulars.
One or two comments
last year like "What have you got new in your garden this year?"
made us think that the answer was to open the gardens at a different time
of year, and the Spring seemed a lovely choice.
There
was a wonderful Floral Display in the Church, with the theme "A
Feast of Flowers".
We ran the usual book and bric-a-brac stalls,
plant and cake sales, displays and refreshments, and as
usual the money raised went to support the St. John the Baptist
Church and the Village Hall. Many of our
gardens were open, and the scent of lilacs and rhododendrons filled the
air.
The
weather very kind to us, too. A lovely warm and dry day.
A big thank you to all
who came to visit us! |

Thank
you to all those who supported us on our Village Open Day!
Officially opened by Sir Charles
and Lady Imogen Wolseley at the Church, there was much to see and do
throughout the Village.
Once again there
was a beautiful Floral Display in the Church, with the theme "Missionaries
and Visionaries", craft stalls, refreshments and a photographic display in
our Village Hall. Many of the gardens were open, showing unusual plants, selling
cakes, or hosting games and raffles.
The
weather was a little overcast, but dry and certainly pleasant weather for a walk
around our Village. An enjoyable day was had by all!
